Chemical

High-performance powder solutions for new chemical materials, featuring fineness, purity, stability and continuous production.

Fluoroplastic

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a fluorinated polymer, which is more commonly known under its commercial name Teflon®. The multitude and diversity of its special features such as resistance to chemical attack, low coefficient of friction and a hydrophobic surface make this material ideal for a great number of different applications:

Non-stick coating for pots and pans

Water- and wind-proof clothing

Coating of chemical equipment, bearings, and seals

Sealing technology

Medical implants

Cable insulation

Dental floss

Aerospace engineering

Filter bags

Typical requirements for ground PTFE are:

  • Fineness values in the range of d97 = 40 µm with exact top-size limitation

  • Contamination-free or iron-free processing

  • Highly pure processing for special applications in aerospace engineering

The Hosokawa/Alpine fluidized bed opposed jet mill AFG of special design is ideally suited to meet all these requirements. Special construction materials with high surface finishes are used. A hinge-back mill design is often requested to ensure quick and easy cleaning.

Process

The grinding process takes place in the fluidized bed opposed jet mill AFG. The feed material is gravity-fed to the grinding chamber. The finely ground product is collected in a cyclone, whereby the cyclone exhaust air is de-dusted in a downstream Pulsjet Collector.

Finely ground PTFE tends to form flakes when conveyed through rotary valves or flap valves. Because of this, discharge elements of this type are not used, instead, correspondingly large material collection bins are connected directly to the cyclone outlet and the filter outlet.

Before investing in new equipment, please conduct tests on the materials to be used at the Hosokawa Test and Process Development Center based on actual production conditions. Our experienced experts will assist you in determining the most effective mixing, granulation, or drying processes, helping you transition from laboratory trials to a comprehensive production testing phase. Whether you need to test the performance of a single machine or evaluate the entire production line, we can provide tailored testing services and process optimization solutions to ensure reliable system operation and excellent performance.
