Silica Powder
Silica powder is an indispensable core functional filler in industries such as electronics and electrical engineering, insulating materials, copper clad laminates (CCL) and semiconductor encapsulation. Its particle size accuracy, purity and sphericity directly determine the insulation performance, thermal stability and mechanical strength of end products. Based on a century of accumulated expertise in powder processing technology, Hosokawa Micron has developed the Super-Orion Ball Mill + Turboplex ATP Classifier System, which enables one-stop production of the full range of general, electrical and electronic grade silica powder products, perfectly solves the pain points of traditional processes, and provides customers with high-quality, low-cost and large-scale silica powder production solutions.
Silica powder is a high-purity SiO₂ powder produced from natural quartz or fused quartz through crushing, classification and surface modification. It features high insulation, low thermal expansion, excellent chemical corrosion resistance and good thermal conductivity. According to purity, crystal form and surface treatment method, mainstream products are divided into eight series, covering the full application scenarios from low-end coatings to high-end semiconductors:
General Grade: PG (inactive), PGH (active) — used in coatings, adhesives and artificial stone
Electrical Grade: DG (inactive), DGH (active) — used in dry-type transformers, instrument transformers and high-voltage insulators
Electronic Grade Crystalline: JG (inactive), JGH (active) — used in ordinary copper clad laminates and electronic potting adhesives
Electronic Grade Fused: RG (inactive), RGH (active) — used in high-frequency and high-speed copper clad laminates and semiconductor encapsulation compounds
Process
We adopt the Super-Orion Ball Mill and Turboplex ATP/ATP-NG Turbo Classifier Process, which covers the full particle size range from coarse powder to submicron ultrafine powder, and enables stable production of all specifications of the eight silica powder series: PG/PGH/DG/DGH/JG/JGH/RG/RGH.
Supporting Ball Milling System
Our ball milling system features an optimized design with higher throughput and finer grinding performance. It can stably meet the basic grinding requirements of the full range of silica powder products, and provide uniform, high-quality feedstock for the subsequent classification process.
Turboplex ATP Series Turbo Classifier
The Turboplex ATP series classifier is Hosokawa Micron's classic flagship product, specially designed for precise classification of industrial ultrafine powders, and is the core competitive advantage in silica powder production.
Industry-leading classification accuracy
Adopting the horizontal turbine classification principle, combined with precision-manufactured classifying wheels and extremely narrow rinsing gaps, it achieves extremely precise particle size cutting, completely eliminates oversize particle contamination, and delivers a steep particle size distribution that meets the stringent requirements of electronic grade silica powder. It can flexibly adapt to the full range of classification needs from ordinary coarse powder to submicron ultrafine powder, allowing one production line to manufacture multiple product specifications.
Significantly lower operating energy consumption
Compared with similar equipment in the industry, the ATP series classifier has significantly lower energy consumption under the same throughput and classification accuracy. The new-generation ATP-NG classifier further optimizes the classification principle, with even more prominent energy consumption advantages, helping customers greatly reduce long-term operating costs.
Comprehensive wear protection system
Targeting the high abrasiveness of silica powder, all material-contact components adopt customized wear protection: classifying wheels are made of monobloc ceramic material, and the housing is lined with PU or ceramic. This effectively prevents secondary metal contamination and ensures product purity, while greatly extending equipment service life and reducing maintenance costs and downtime.
High throughput and high yield
Available in single-wheel and multi-wheel configurations. Multi-wheel classifiers adopt multiple independently driven classifying wheels operating in parallel, which significantly increases single-unit processing capacity while maintaining classification accuracy, meeting the needs of large-scale production. The unique secondary air rinsing design for coarse material minimizes fine powder entrainment in coarse fractions, resulting in a fines yield far above the industry average.
